Zaatari Radio is an innovative humanitarian project that aims, through a bottom up approach to empower war-affected people living in Zaatari Village, Jordan.
In June/July 2018 the Zaatari radio team set up a radio station in the acting for change education centre, a local charity that provides classes for both Syrian and Jordanian children living in Zaatari Village. During our time there we designed and held a series of workshops that introduced different aspects of radio broadcasting.
The children took to radio broadcasting immediately with sustained enthusiasm and creativity. Currently we are working with acting for change to find a permanent space for Zaatari Radio which we hope will become embedded within the functioning of the local community. Providing a platform to broadcast relevant news and information, health campaigns and a space for creativity to be shared and expressed.
